ANDREA PALLADIO / VILLA BARBARO
Villa Barbaro in Maser
The villa was built, based on a design by Palladio, in 1550 for the Barbaro family. In the construction of the complex, the architect intervened with skill, succeeding in transforming an existing house in the area and connecting it with the straight lines and digging a nymphaeum along the side of the hill with a fish pool in which, thanks to a sophisticated hydraulic system, the water is channelled into the service areas and therefore reaches the garden.
Inside the villa, Paolo Veronese created what can be considered one of the most extraordinary frescos from the Sixteenth century in Veneto. At the feet of the slope on which the villa can be found, Palladio created an elegant temple destined for use as a chapel of the villa as well as a parish church.
