The Treviso countryside, evidence of a glorious past
The entire territory of the province of Treviso is full of old villages and districts that hide works of art and architecture of an inestimable value. The history of Marca Trevigiana is ancient and closely connected with that of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. The latter, in reality, almost up until the eighteenth century, extended its possessions throughout the Veneto region.
In particular, Treviso was extremely important to the Republic: it extracted wheat from its land as well as construction materials and wood used to build boats. In this period of history, therefore, the development of the territory was very important. Thousands of villas, churches and buildings were built in that era that still remain as proof of a glorious past.
