INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY / THE EXTRACTION INDUSTRY IN AGORDINO

Areas full of charm and history of a past that lives in its memory

The small Imperina valley, that opens up for a few kilometres to the South of Agordo, was in the past, one of the most important mining centres of the Veneto region. The extraction activities, documented for the first time in 1417, carried on uninterruptedly until 1962. The most important monument, without a doubt, is the oven building for copper fusion and refinement.

The latter, a symbol of the mining activities that lasted for more than five centuries, provide observers with a deep suggestion. Built from solid blocks of green shale, they seem to challenge decades, if not centuries. Historical and cultural meanings and aesthetic values converge here in what represents one of the most important industrial monuments of the Veneto area.
