INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY / THE MALLET OF PAGNANO
The Mallet of Pagnano, an example of proto-industrial architecture
Pagnano, the area closest to Asolo, rises at the merging point of the two torrents Muson and Erega. Thanks to the presence of water in the area of the settlement, several watermills were created, some of which still exist. These include the Mallet of Pagnano, built in 1474.
The presence of this ancient building is extremely important not only because it represents an example of industrial archaeology but also because it represents a very special characteristic of the entire Marca area due to the very large number of watermills (created for several functions). The Mallet of Pagnano, recently restored, still holds the original internal distribution: the mallet, the grinder, the water-energy tower that blows air onto the forge and onto the bellows.
