TREVISO AND THE CITY CENTRE / TREVISO, A CITY OF WATER
Water an element of life and urban growth between romantic and enchanting views
The urban history of Treviso is that of a city born on the water. The Botteniga enters from the North. It branches off before the Pria Bridge: a branch represents the northern trench; another one is divided up into three elements, in turn into the Cagnani. To the West the Cagnano della Roggia. In the middle the Buranelli and finally the Pescheria branch to the East.
Along their course, within the own centre, all of the canals flow into the Sile, that runs through the city. Along these waterways the most characteristic areas have found their right location: the Buranelli (depicted by many painters) with the willows that drop into the Cagnan, the Pescheria with the multicoloured fruit and fish stalls and Riviera Santa Margherita that, running along the Sile, was the ancient location of the town port.
